MC Community Services is always hiring Behavioral Health Professionals to provide Section 28 in-home and community-based support for children and adolescents across Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Washington Counties in Maine. No prior behavioral-health experience required — we provide BHP certification training and ongoing supervision. This is a great fit for someone patient, reliable, and curious about working with kids.
BHPs are the backbone of our Section 28 program. The kids we serve build skills one-on-one, in their own homes and communities, with adults who know them and stick with them. That work matters more than any degree.

What You'll Do
- Provide one-on-one in-home and community-based support to children and adolescents under 21.
- Help kids build everyday skills: daily living, social, safety, self-care, community participation.
- Follow each child's individual treatment plan under the direction of a Section 28 supervisor.
- Document each session in compliance with MaineCare Section 28 requirements.
- Coordinate with parents, schools, and the clinical team as part of a wraparound approach.
- Apply trauma-informed and person-centered principles in every interaction.

Compensation and Benefits

Do I need experience or a degree to become a BHP?
No. A high school diploma or GED is the only education requirement. We provide BHP certification training and ongoing supervision. Many of our best BHPs started without any behavioral-health background — they brought patience, reliability, and care for the kids.
What does the BHP training look like?
MCCS provides BHP certification training in-house for hired candidates. The training covers Section 28 services, trauma-informed care, behavior support, documentation, and safety. You start working with kids once you're certified and have shadowed our team.
What's the pay?
You earn $18/hr during paid training, $20/hr once you're certified, and up to $23/hr with experience. On top of that, we run a monthly profit-sharing bonus ($25–$140/mo) that over 70% of the team qualifies for every month, plus Thanksgiving and Christmas bonuses, annual raises, and a mileage stipend.
What's a typical day?
Most BHPs see two to four kids per day, one at a time, in the child's home or out in the community (library, store, park, school). Sessions are typically one to three hours, focused on whatever skills the child is working on through their treatment plan. Documentation goes in at the end of each session.
Can I work part-time?
Yes. We hire BHPs full-time and part-time, and schedules are built around your availability and your assigned kids' needs. Many BHPs balance this work with school, family, or a second job.
